OpenAI’s Sam Altman: India fully embraces ChatGPT

Date:

India has fully embraced the use of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, a language model developed by OpenAI, with tremendous enthusiasm and early adoption from users, according to OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman. He recounted a story of a farmer who had been having difficulty accessing government services until he discovered the potential of ChatGPT via the messaging app WhatsApp. Altman spoke at an event in New Delhi hosted by the Economic Times on Wednesday.

Altman was impressed by India’s efforts to utilize national technology as an asset and cited the India stack as an example of this. The India stack is comprised of open application programming interfaces and digital public goods such as Unified Payments Interface and CoWin.

When discussing AI regulation, Altman expressed his belief that India could play a significant role in shaping global discussion. He suggested that India could take the lead in international regulatory frameworks for AI during the upcoming G20 summit. We are going to really focus on that between now and September and make sure we prioritize that.

This demonstrates that India is a forward-thinking country, with a focus on leveraging the latest technology to benefit its citizens. Altman’s comments suggest that India is poised to play a major role in shaping the regulation and implementation of AI globally. It goes without saying that this is a significant achievement, and it will be interesting to see how India and its ChatGPT users continue to innovate in the coming years.
