Meta’s ChatGPT rival, Llama 2, has been released to the public, according to an announcement by Facebook’s parent company. Meta has partnered with Microsoft for this next generation AI model, making Microsoft its preferred partner. Unlike other AI models like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard chatbot, Llama 2 takes an open-source approach and allows users to contribute to combatting issues.
Llama 2 will be available for free to commercial users and researchers. Although Meta did not disclose specific details about the training data used for Llama 2, the company emphasized its commitment to an open-source strategy. The initial version of Llama was launched back in February.
Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, a Google-backed AI startup, is scheduled to testify before the U.S. Senate on July 25. The Senate hearing, titled Oversight of AI: Principles for Regulation, will also feature the participation of professors Yoshua Bengio and Stuart Russell. The focus of the hearing will likely be on how the recent surge in generative AI technology impacts workers, consumers, and society as a whole. Anthropic has developed an AI bot called Claude.
