India Calls for Responsible Use of AI Technology at G-20 Meet
In a statement released after the G-20 conference on cyber security, India emphasized the need for responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The promotion of an open, secure, and accountable ICT environment was emphasized, with a focus on balancing technical advancement and business development with the safeguarding of states’ security and the privacy of individuals.
The statement also addressed concerns regarding online sexual exploitation and harmful content, particularly towards women and children. Stakeholders are seeking to strengthen cooperation and develop initiatives to ensure the safety of users, especially in vulnerable groups.
Furthermore, the statement expressed alarm over malicious cyber activities that violate established norms and principles of responsible state behavior in cyberspace and international law. The need for coordination on prevention and mitigation strategies against Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) was emphasized.
To combat cybercrime effectively, India advocated for comprehensive international cooperation through the establishment of an international convention under the UN framework. This convention would enable swift justice for victims while ensuring appropriate safeguards, including data protection, and empowering law enforcement agencies to combat new-age crimes.
