AI Technology Could Potentially Impact Bangladesh’s Future Development
During a recent special meeting of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Advisor Salman F Rahman highlighted the potential threats posed by artificial intelligence (AI) technology to the development of nations, including Bangladesh. Rahman emphasized that the excessive use of technology, specifically robots and AI in industries, could lead to challenges for human beings and hinder future development.
He pointed out that the growing technological advancements are widening the gap between developed and underdeveloped countries, as investors are focusing on opportunities with high profit potential. Rahman stressed the importance of sharing technological capabilities globally to ensure mutual benefits for the world.
Despite facing economic challenges, Rahman expressed optimism about Bangladesh’s progress in overcoming crises and achieving development across various sectors, even amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. However, he acknowledged the impact of external factors such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has led to a decline in forex reserves and the appreciation of the dollar against the taka in Bangladesh.
World leaders at the meeting advocated for the equitable distribution of technology worldwide, emphasizing the need for global cooperation, economic growth, and sustainable energy policies to address future challenges. The discussions highlighted the importance of ensuring that technological advancements benefit all nations, not just the most developed ones, to foster inclusive growth and minimize disparities in the global economy.
