Global Laws Needed to Regulate AI as an Existential Risk: OpenAI’s Sam Altman

Founder of OpenAI, Sam Altman, has called for global leaders to join forces in regulating artificial intelligence (AI), referring to the technology as an existential risk. Altman reasoned that norms and regulations shouldn’t extend to smaller companies who deploy open large language models, only major players such as Google and OpenAI themselves. At present, OpenAI is searching for countries to help enact regulations to cover the AI space. Speaking at an Economic Times event in New Delhi, Altman referred to India’s G20 presidency as key in catalysing the conversation around creating an international regulation for AI.
