Artificial intelligence has been used to cheat in government recruitment exams in Telangana, southern India, according to a special investigation team. One suspect accessed questions for assistant executive engineer and divisional accounts officer positions and used OpenAI’s language model ChatGPT to obtain answers, which were then shared with candidates via Bluetooth earbuds during the exam. The investigation also uncovered how candidates were able to enter the exam hall with electronic devices. The suspect is said to have sold the question papers to more than 30 candidates for INR25m to INR30m ($339,000 to $407,000) each and hoped to make up to INR100m from the scam.
