Bing Becomes the Default Search Browser for ChatGPT – Stuff South Africa

Date:

Microsoft and OpenAI recently made a big announcement that could have long-term effects on how people search the web. The tech giant’s Bing search engine has been integrated to become the default search engine within OpenAI’s ChatGPT bot. This integration is expected to bring a timely and reliable web search experience to users through ChatGPT, which until now was less accurate compared to search giant Google.

Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s head of consumer marketing, says that its integration of Bing and Edge not only brings AI-based search to ChatGPT, but also citation-supported search results. This is seen as a major move as Microsoft and Google compete to integrate AI into their search engines.

Meanwhile, Samsung recently made a decision to continue its partnership with Google, instead of switching to Microsoft’s Bing search engine. The new ChatGPT Plus experience is currently rolling out and is available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. All free users will also have access to the AI-powered Bing and Edge integration soon by simply enabling a plugin.

Microsoft has seen a significant increase in the downloads of its Bing mobile app since introducing AI-powered Bing and Edge. It reports that there have been over half a billion chat sessions and the Bing Image Creator has created 200 million images.

Microsoft is a leader in technology and is deeply invested in AI. It has grown to become a pioneer in the search engine space and has made large investments in AI to keep up with the fast-paced technology of today. Yusuf Mehdi is the head of consumer marketing for Microsoft and has been with the company since 2002. As Microsoft continues its mission to modernize search engines, Mehdi is focusing on providing users with a reliable and up-to-date search experience.
