ChatGPT Developer Calls for International Regulation of Powerful Artificial AI

Date:

The company behind the popular chatbot ChatGPT has brought up the need for an international regulatory agency to oversee and policies for superintelligent AI advancements. OpenAI founder Sam Altman is among the company executives who believe that the development of Artificial intelligence is quickly advancing and an international body to oversee the technology is imperative. This hypothetical organization would be similar to the International Atomic Energy Agency which works towards global cooperation concerning nuclear sciences.

Altman argues that developing a licensing and registration system for AI-based projects should be established when the projects reach a certain level of capability. Under this system, international authorities would track the computing power of AI companies and have control over the types of projects being conducted. He has also asked for collaboration between researchers to ensure absolute safety when deploying of these advanced technologies.

Bearing in mind the introduction of US President Joe Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) overhaul of the US automotive industry, the implications for implementing a successful AI regulatory agency are now more significant than ever.

Sam Altman is a programmer, entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist. He is the co-chairman of OpenAI, a research laboratory comprising of an artificial intelligence development team. Altman is a partner at Y Combinator and was the president of Y Combinator since its inception in 2005. He previously worked in several start-ups, including Social Capital LP, Loopt, and reddit. He is also an initiator and co-founder of the nonprofit research laboratory YC Research. Altman has made substantial contributions to the AI sector and his proposals for international bodies to oversee AI developments have earned him.
