Volkswagen has unveiled an upgraded version of its Golf GTI facelift, featuring integration with an AI chatbot. Following the recent teaser of the Golf Mk8 facelift, the performance variant GTI has now been revealed, albeit still camouflaged. The facelifted model showcases new headlamps and tail lamps, sharper lines on its front and rear bumpers, and an expanded infotainment touchscreen setup similar to the one found in the ID.7 fastback.
Interior images of the Golf GTI facelift confirm a return to conventional buttons on the multi-function steering wheel, replacing the touch-control system criticized by previous users. Although powertrain details for the updated GTI have not yet been officially confirmed, expectations are that it will continue to use a version of the EA888 turbocharged inline-four cylinder petrol engine. In the pre-facelift model, this engine produces 245 PS and 370 Nm of torque, transmitting power to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Volkswagen has also announced the integration of ChatGPT, an AI-based chatbot, with its IDA voice command assistant. The voice assistant can now be used to control various functions such as infotainment, navigation, air-conditioning, and answering general knowledge questions. The upcoming integration of ChatGPT aims to further enhance the user experience by providing intuitive language interactions, specific vehicle information, and more.
Volkswagen assures customers that creating a new account, installing a separate app, or activating ChatGPT separately will not be necessary. By simply using the voice prompt, hello IDA, users will be able to access the advanced capabilities of the AI-powered chatbot. If the IDA system is unable to fulfill a request, it will be forwarded anonymously to the AI, and the IDA voice command assistant will respond accordingly. Furthermore, Volkswagen emphasizes that vehicle data is not accessed by ChatGPT, and any questions and answers are promptly deleted to ensure data protection.
Kai Grünitz, Head of Technical Development at Volkswagen, expressed his enthusiasm about the integration, stating, Thanks to the seamless integration of ChatGPT and strong collaboration with our partner, Cerence, we are offering our drivers added value and direct access to the AI-based research tool. This also underlines the innovative strength of our new products.
With this integration, Volkswagen aims to enhance the overall driving experience, bringing added convenience and access to AI-based assistance for its customers. The integration of ChatGPT showcases the brand’s commitment to innovation and technology, further solidifying Volkswagen’s position as a frontrunner in the automotive industry.
