UK Minister for Investment Visits India: Latest Updates

Britain’s Minister for Investment Lord Dominic Johnson is in India to explore ways to strengthen the UK-India partnership in areas of trade, technology, and science, having arrived in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The British High Commission in India said that Johnson is visiting Bengaluru and Pune to meet investors and business leaders like Infosys and Zensar to attract more foreign investment to the UK.

Lord Johnson said that it was an honour to be in India and stressed the strong cultural and economic ties between the two countries. He added that with investments in life sciences, artificial intelligence (AI), and the UK’s determination to be the number one investment destination in Europe, now is the best time to invest in the UK.

In addition to its trade discussions, the UK is also promoting its Global Investment Summit 2023, which is slated to have 200 Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of multinational companies and investment corporations attending in the fall to promote ‘emerging UK success stories’ in areas such as life sciences, nuclear fusion, and small modular reactors (SMRs).

Infosys and Zensar are two of the leading Indian IT services companies, headquartered in Bengaluru, India. Infosys is a multinational corporation providing business consulting, information technology and outsourcing services. It has a presence in 46 countries and an employee base of around two lakh. On the other hand, Zensar is a leading digital solutions and technology services company that caters to customers in the retail, manufacturing, healthcare, and utilities sectors.

Lord Dominic Johnson is the Minister for Investment in the UK. He graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in neuroscience, and previously held various positions in government and the private sector. He was a Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) from 2010 to 2019. Lord Johnson has been the leader of the House of Lords since July 2019, and has made many visits to India in his tenure.
