TikTok is experimenting with a new tool that will allow users to generate AI avatars, confirming this to TechCrunch. This tool was first seen by social media consultant Matt Navarra. However, the tool isn’t available to everyone yet as it is currently being tested in select markets, the app confirmed. With this, the app is essentially creating a platform similar to Lensa Application directly within the app.
Once the users get access to the tool, it will require them to pick three to ten pictures for the avatar. This tool can only be used once in a day and will generate up to 30 avatars each time. After uploading the images, users can choose from five different styles for the tool and give it some time to generate avatars. After all this, user can then download and share one or more of the AI avatars to their TikTok stories or use it as the profile avatar.
The style options are a bit more limited compared to Lensa app but the results are still impressive. As per the app, this is a part of testing the new ways to enrich user experience in the app. According to TechCrunch, all uploaded photos are checked against TikTok’s Community Guidelines and are moderated by the app. After they are used, they are deleted off the server.
This isn’t the first time that the app is testing out its own AI functionalities. Last year, a similar app named Lensa, climbed up the US Apple Store’s top charts because of its AI avatar creative results. Due to this, people started using other similar apps. TikTok took notice of it and tried to add a similar tool inside the app. AI avatar tools have faced some controversy due to unaccredited artist works being used, so the app is trying to avoid such occurrences as well.
TikTok said that not all features they test, reach the final product and the same features can look and feel different when they launch broadly. But, of course, the company released this statement and only time will tell if they will see the success they desire. Matt Navarra, the person mentioned in the article, is a renowned social media consultant and he has been on the top charts in Europe since 2018. He was one of the first to spot the AI tool when it got tested out.
