Snapchat recently rolled out its AI tool, My AI, to all users, and it has not been welcomed with open arms. Users have bombarded the App Store with one-star reviews because they’re annoyed by My AI’s placement in their Chat feed and its ability to access personal information. My AI is powered by ChatGPT and is a stripped down version of OpenAI’s tool. Unfortunately, only Snapchat+ subscribers have access to turning off the chatbot, with regular users having no option for removing it.
Snapchat, the popular multimedia messaging application, responded to the backlash, claiming that “My AI understands a Snapchatter’s age, and location if it has been granted by them.” They also added that their most recent analysis found that 99.5% of AI’s responses followed their community guidelines.
Despite the company’s claims, it still seems that users are unimpressed and are now looking for alternative messaging applications. Snapchat+ subscribers, who are able to opt out of My AI, can still use the platform with no restrictions, but the majority of users are looking for a more personalized experience.

Although most users are currently frustrated with Snapchat, we should still keep in mind that AI technology is still very new and highly dynamic, and the company is trying its best to adapt to user needs. They have responded and reacted to user complaints, so hopefully, they’ll be able to offer better alternatives in the near future.
