AI in Legal and Judicial System: IIIT Hyderabad and NALSAR Host Roundtable

. The International Institute of Information Technology (IIITH) and NALSAR University have hosted an event to discuss the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India's legal system. With respected law firms, policy think tanks, NALSAR and IIITH faculty, and tech startups, the focus was on how AI can solve existing challenges and opportunities in the Law industry. Roundtable was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of NALSAR Prof. Srikrishna Deva Rao and IIITH's Director Prof. P J Narayanan. They highlighted the role of AI in aiding legal research, due process of law and judgements. The sessions also deliberated legal accountability for AI-based applications. Government Not Planning to Employ ChatGPT: Sun Dong

Sun Dong, the Secretary for Innovation and Technology, shared the government's "very open attitude" towards generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) while attending a digital economy summit on Friday. He noted that the SAR government is closely monitoring related advancements in the field whilst delving into the potential benefits and risks of AI technology. Sun confirmed that the government will be collaborating with different industries to promote its growth in Hong Kong, aiming to push relevant technologies to new heights. However, for now the region has no plans to adopt the ChatGPT chatbot due to information security risks. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has not yet given the region the green light for its use.
