Plex, a leading media company, has just released a new update to their music player, Plexamp, in collaboration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This feature, titled ‘Sonic Sage’, allows users to create personalized music playlists using their TIDAL subscription and natural language to describe the type of music they want.
The concept of using AI capabilities for music streaming services is gaining traction among users. Platforms such as Spotify feature an “AI DJ” and third-party apps like Petey apply AI to Apple Music. However, this feature is only available in Plexamp, Plex’s Labs Division’s debut project that was launched in 2017. With this upgrade, users can “travel back in time” to discover old music, go on sonic adventures, and listen to mood radios. It is supported across Mac, Windows, Linux, Headless, and mobile operating systems.
In order to take advantage of this feature, users need to have a Plex Pass subscription, a TIDAL subscription, and an OpenAI account with an OpenAI API key to be added to the Plexamp settings. This will also limit the selection of songs to those in the user’s library. Through this feature, Plexamp users are now able to enjoy music in a more enjoyable way by curating personal playlists with just a few clicks.
The company behind this feature, Plex, has been adding updates to Plexamp ever since it launched a few years ago. Now, they’ve tapped into ChatGPT, an AI interface technology created by OpenAI, to provide users with this unique way of building useful playlists. People can now search for music by typing in keywords or by simply describing the kind of music they want to hear.
With this feature, Plex has certainly offered something unique and exciting for fans of music. It will be interesting to see how the company continues to implement and improve upon this powerful technology.
