Date:

Today, President Joe Biden’s administration will meet with CEOs of several major Artificial Intelligence (AI) development companies to discuss advancements and implications of AI. This meeting includes the CEOs of OpenAI, Microsoft, Alphabet, and Anthropic AI, and it aims to highlight the need to create trustworthy and responsible AI systems.

In order to ensure these systems are safe and serve the greater public good, the Biden Administration has invited public input to help develop policies that protect the American people. The meeting also coincides with the Vice President Kamala Harris’s leading initiative to assess risk and secure safety with new AI advancements.

The White House also announced plans to evaluate existing generative AI systems in a public assessment for potential risks and dangers to individuals. This evaluation will take place in the AI Village at DEF COM 31 on the Scale AI developed platform and be done by independent community partners and AI experts.

In addition, the National Science Foundation will also receive $140 million to initiate seven new National AI Research Institutes to promote further research and development of AI. In an effort to make sure these AI systems line up with the AI Bill of Rights and AI Risk Management Framework, the Office of Management and Budget will release guidelines for federal departments and agencies by drafting policy advancements.
