OpenAI, an AI research lab, has recently launched the ChatGPT app for iOS compatible phones. This app enables users to converse in natural language with artificial intelligence and has been released in 11 countries, including the US, Ireland, Jamaica, Korea, and the United Kingdom. Although the application is not yet available in India, OpenAI remains committed to rolling out the app in the future. To add appeal, OpenAI has introduced the “links” feature which allows users to share conversations with ChatGPT with other users.
OpenAI was founded in 2015 by tech industry veterans Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, and Reid Hoffman. The company has since developed into a world leader in the development of artificial intelligence. OpenAI’s mission is to create safe, reliable artificial general intelligence that can benefit humanity. Their mission statement also includes “advancing digital intelligence in the way that is most likely to benefit humanity as a whole, unconstrained by a need to generate financial return.”
OpenAI has also been at the core of controversies recently, with several tech companies, including Samsung, Apple, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, and Verizon, having prohibited the use of ChatGPT. Although the company states that they are continuously striving for privacy and security, users are encouraged to take extra caution when using the app.
Regardless, the introduction of this artificial intelligence application on iOS will facilitate smoother interactions between humans and digital programs. OpenAI’s ability to guarantee fairness and privacy will undoubtedly be crucial in the further development of AI.
