Microsoft has announced its decision to replace Cortana, its digital assistant, with ChatGPT-powered Windows Copilot. The move comes after Failing to attract enough users compared to competitors such as Apple’s Siri, Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa. Cortana will be removed from Windows 10 and Windows 11 later this year. However, users can still use voice to perform various tasks on the PC, such as setting reminders and marking things in their calendar.
Microsoft reaffirmed its focus to provide better AI-powered programs, including Bing search engine, Edge browser and its productivity tools such as Microsoft 365 services. Windows Copilot, a generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered feature, will deliver accurate responses to complex real-world questions, enabling it to better support Windows users. Using Windows Copilot, users can ask for recommendations on the best accommodation options and places to visit on a weekend family trip to a particular location and get a detailed itinerary that includes flight and train tickets.
Users in select regions will be able to test the new feature starting this month, and it will be available for everyone later this year. According to Microsoft, Windows Copilot will offer more capacity and superior performance than Cortana. Microsoft expects that Cortana will be entirely phased out in the near future, with all users transitioning to Windows Copilot.
