Microsoft’s GPT-4 Turbo with Vision Now Available for Azure OpenAI Users

Microsoft has officially launched the GPT-4 Turbo with Vision model for all Azure OpenAI Service customers, marking a significant advancement in integrating advanced AI models into business operations. The model, identified as gpt-4-turbo-2024-04-09, is now deployable in the Sweden Central and East US 2 Azure OpenAI regions, following its initial preview release last December.

GPT-4 Turbo with Vision is designed to enhance business processes by leveraging AI capabilities to comprehend and analyze both images and text in a unified manner. This development has already found applications in various sectors, including online retailers improving the shopping experience and media companies managing digital assets more efficiently. Moreover, organizations across industries benefit from the model’s ability to extract insights from charts and diagrams, highlighting its versatility in processing visual information.

Despite lacking certain features from the public preview, such as OCR and specific image data processing capabilities, Microsoft is committed to incorporating these functions in future updates. The upcoming addition of JSON mode and function calling for inference requests involving image inputs aims to further enhance the model’s effectiveness.

GPT-4 Turbo with Vision introduces several new features to streamline development processes, such as support for JSON mode and function calling and maintaining a context window of 128,000 tokens for extensive data processing in a single request. Developers can now input images through direct links or by passing base64 encoded images, expanding the model’s applicability in various scenarios.

Microsoft has priced the GPT-4 Turbo with Vision model at $0.01 per 1,000 tokens for input and $0.03 per 1,000 tokens for output, with additional costs for enhanced functionalities. This pricing structure is aimed at making the technology accessible to a wide range of users, from startups to large enterprises, to drive innovation and efficiency improvements across industries.
