Mercedes-Benz is taking in-car voice control to the next level by integrating ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence-powered system, via Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service. The upgraded voice assistant will be able to understand natural language and respond to complex questions. Mercedes-Benz will start a beta program on June 16 in the US for eligible vehicles equipped with the MBUX infotainment system. During the three-month program, users can test out the new technology and provide feedback, which Mercedes-Benz developers will use to improve the voice assistant and roll out ChatGPT to more markets and languages. The German carmaker has partnered with Microsoft to ensure data privacy, with all voice-command data collected being anonymized, analyzed, and stored in the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud. This partnership marks a shift for Mercedes-Benz, which previously chose to develop its own voice assistant instead of partnering with IT giants like Google or Apple.
