Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, recently spoke about his plans to incorporate AI tools into his company’s services, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and even virtual reality tools on the Metaverse. Zuckerberg suggested that AI could be used to power chatbots on messaging platforms, create content for posts and ads on social media, and create enhanced video content. These developments could have sweeping implications for the use of AI on these platforms.
However, the consequences of such a decision remains yet to be seen. Recently, Snapchat launched its AI-powered ‘My AI’ assistant, a move which was met with much backlash. The feature was automatically pinned onto the feeds of users, unless they were SnapChat Plus subscribers, and this has led to a large amount of negative reviews, citing AI as a major factor. This goes to show that Meta may have to think carefully about how it uses its AI tools, given the potential for such unpopular reactions from users.
Meta has yet to release a timeframe for these AI products, but Mark Zuckerberg has stated that the company’s AI investments will be revealed later this year. Alternatively, if people are interested in other AI assistants, ChatGPT suggests a few options to explore. We will have to wait and see what AI tools Meta offers and if people respond positively.
