Bad news for ChatGPT: India Plans to Regulate AI Platforms. Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has revealed India’s plans to regulate AI platforms such as ChatGPT and Google Bard. This follows the implementation of a similar framework by the European Union and the testimony of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in front of the US Congress.
ChatGPT is one the latest and most influential Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms. Created by Sam Altman, a renowned innovator in the AI space, ChatGPT allows businesses to engage with customers to generate datasets, automate customer service, and create AI-driven customer experiences.
The conversation around regulating AI platforms has been gaining momentum. Now, India too is in the process of formulating a suitable policy framework. This includes intellectual property rights (IPR), copyright issues, and biases in algorithms.
In an interview with the Times of India, Minister Vaishnaw said, “The whole world is looking at what should be the framework, and what should be the regulatory setup.” He pointed out the need for a comprehensive discussion at the international level to create a cooperative framework in agreement with other countries.
CEO Altman had a similar outlook when he gave a testimony at the US Congress. He noted the importance of rules and guidelines for disclosure from AI companies. He also expressed concern over the potential harm caused by AI in the future.
It is clear that the conversation about regulating AI, as well as other technological advancements, is heating up. With India joining the bandwagon, the future looks like one where ethical and responsible use of technologies will be the norm.
