India is taking the lead in setting global standards for responsible and trustworthy AI, as outlined by Additional Secretary Niraj Verma during a session in Geneva. The Telecom Engineering Center (TEC) in India has already released a standard for evaluating fairness in AI systems, with plans to develop a similar standard for measuring the robustness of AI systems.
Verma led a delegation to the ITU Geneva for the WSIS+20 Forum High-Level Event 2024 and the ‘AI for Good’ global summit. This event, co-organized by ITU, UNESCO, UNDP, and UNCTAD, provided a platform for global collaborations in the AI industry.
During the sessions at the summit, the Indian delegation showcased the advancements made in the telecom sector through the use of AI and emphasized the importance of making these technologies accessible and affordable to developing countries. The delegation also stressed the need to address ethical, privacy, and inclusivity challenges to fully harness the benefits of AI in governance.
Moreover, India extended an invitation to host the WTSA 2024 in New Delhi, seeking participation from foreign delegates worldwide. The delegation highlighted the country’s commitment to leveraging AI for sustainable development and emphasized the role of AI in enhancing efficiency, service delivery, and decision-making processes.
