As for the article on the topic of whether iOS 17 will have a ChatGPT-like Siri upgrade, it appears that hope is high, but the reality is that an upgrade of this magnitude may not come in such a short time frame. Generative AI technology has made great strides in the last few months, with the arrival of ChatGPT, GPT-4, and Google Bard. All of these can be accessed almost anywhere in the world on any sort of device, the iPhone included, with various ChatGPT and Bard apps available. But Siri still does not have access to generative AI powers like ChatGPT and it is unclear if iOS 17 will bring the capability.
Apple has confirmed it is working on generative AI products that could benefit Siri on all of its devices. It is looking for AI engineers for generative AI-related positions, yet there is still nothing indicating something as major as a ChatGPT-like Siri service is being developed in time for iOS 17. On top of this, Apple has discouraged its employees from using products like ChatGPT and other generative AI products both for work and coding.
The future looks promising though as Apple is pushing hard to develop new generative AI features. 9to5Mac reported that there are 88 openings with “AI” in the title, with 28 of them being released over the past 19 days. Several of these listings let users know that Apple is planning to bring generative AI to mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad. The launch of these features has been timed to correspond with Apple’s release of its mixed reality headset, the Reality Pro AR/VR.
With all this combined, it appears that although there is great potential for a ChatGPT-like Siri upgrade, this is unlikely to happen in iOS 17. But with the development Apple is working on, the near future looks hopeful.
