GPT-5 Release Date is Uncertain: OpenAI’s Perspective

Date:

OpenAI recently enhanced its conversation AI called ChatGPT with the GPT-4 model, which offers users some interesting features such as multi-modality. However, AI CEO Sam Altman stated in a recent interview with MIT podcast host Lex Fridman that the company is not looking to pursue the development of GPT-5 in the near future. While many believed that OpenAI would have released GPT-5 by the end of 2023, Altman’s statements indicate that this is not the case.

OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, is now reportedly pushing its products commercially with an API and subscription service. Microsoft has integrated GPT-4 technology into its Office suite of products and its Bing search engine. It has also incorporated the same tech into SwiftKey keyboard app and Edge web browser, where users can access the complex text-to-image generator powered by OpenAI’s AI.

OpenAI is a company dedicated to creating artificial general intelligence for the benefit of humanity. Founded by Elon Musk, Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, and other artificial intelligence and machine learning researchers in 2015, the company has received investments from Microsoft, Sam Altman and more. OpenAI currently focuses its research efforts on creating Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) that can equal or exceed human-level intelligence in all its tasks.

Sam Altman is an American entrepreneur and investor who is most widely recognised as the co-founder of Y Combinator, one of the world’s leading startup incubators. He has invested in a wide variety of tech companies, such as Airbnb, Dropbox, Stripe, and Reddit. Altman is currently the CEO of OpenAI and is responsible for making the necessary decisions for the company’s success. Altman’s background in artificial intelligence, computer science, and tech investments make him a perfect leader for OpenAI.
