Google Introduces Gemini Ultra and $20 Paid Tier for Gemini Model
Google is taking a significant step forward with its Gemini model by launching Gemini Ultra, its most advanced large language model to date. This move comes as Google retires its previous name for the model, Bard, and rebrands it as Gemini.
Gemini Ultra will be available as a paid experience through a $20 Google One tier, which includes a two-month free trial. This tier also provides 2TB of storage and access to the rest of Google’s One feature set. Users of Google Workspace apps like Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Meet will also have access to Gemini.
To enhance the user experience, Google is launching a new Gemini app for Android and integrating it into the Google app on iOS. Android users will now be able to replace their Google Assistant with Gemini. Additionally, Google will be sunsetting the Duet AI brand and merging it into the Gemini family.
Initially, Gemini Pro, the predecessor to Gemini Ultra, was the only widely available model. However, Google now aims to offer more advanced capabilities through the Gemini Ultra 1.0 model. While Gemini Advanced, which offers access to Ultra 1.0, is currently the only way to access it, Google plans to expand availability to more countries and territories.
Gemini Ultra 1.0 sets new benchmarks in various areas, including text, image, audio, and video. It boasts impressive capabilities, such as coding, logical reasoning, following nuanced instructions, and creative collaboration. Moreover, Gemini Advanced enables users to generate longer prompts and better understand the context of previous prompts. It is worth mentioning that Gemini Ultra 1.0 is a multi-model, allowing users to engage in conversations about images.
Google’s decision to rename its model from Bard to Gemini reflects the technological advancements and ecosystem surrounding its language models. The company envisions Gemini as more than just a model, but rather a transformative shift in how it approaches state-of-the-art technology and its vast user base.
While there were mixed reactions to Bard, the rebranding to Gemini alongside the launch of Gemini Ultra 1.0 aims to provide users with a more capable and refined experience. The integration of Google Workspace and the availability of an API for developers are expected to further enhance Gemini’s functionality.
With Gemini Ultra 1.0 and the new $20 Google One AI Premium plan, Google aims to offer a competitive offering in the AI chat tool market. All Google One subscribers will receive a free two-month trial of this plan.
Google’s move to optimize its models and services aligns with its commitment to innovation and user satisfaction. As Gemini continues to evolve, Google plans to add support for additional languages, starting with Japanese and Korean.
Overall, the introduction of Gemini Ultra and the $20 paid tier demonstrates Google’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of language models and providing users with enhanced AI-powered experiences.
