Google is making significant changes to its AI platform, aiming to compete with Microsoft Copilot. As part of this transformation, Google Bard will now be called Gemini, while its Duet AI service, primarily for business and enterprise users, will be known as Gemini for Workspace. Google hopes to position Gemini as an essential productivity partner for workers worldwide.
During Google I/O 2023, the company introduced Duet AI as its response to the rising popularity of AI systems like ChatGPT. With over a million users already onboard, Google plans to incorporate popular tools such as help me write into the rebranded platform. This feature allows users to submit simple prompts that can be transformed into complete emails.
Google Docs users will also be able to utilize Gemini for content generation and editing. The platform will include a new AI-powered proofreader exclusive to Google Docs, which will tackle spelling, grammar, conciseness, active voice, wording, and sentence structure. The objective is to compete with established players in this space, such as Grammarly.
Gemini will be available to users subscribed to the Google One AI Premium plan, accessible in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet. Google Cloud customers will also witness the transition from Duet to Gemini, providing developers with productivity enhancements for coding, bolstering cybersecurity, and improving overall efficiency.
Although pricing details have yet to be disclosed, it is worth mentioning that Google previously charged businesses $30 per user per month for Duet AI on Google Workspace.
By rebranding and expanding their AI platform, Google aims to consolidate its position in the AI market, particularly in the enterprise segment. With Gemini for Workspace, Google intends to provide users with a comprehensive suite of AI tools and services to enhance productivity and facilitate seamless work operations.
These developments from Google demonstrate the increasing importance of AI in various sectors, including Cloud and Workspace services. The tech giant recognizes the potential of AI and its ability to drive growth and innovation. As AI adoption continues to gain momentum, Google is positioning itself as a leading player in this rapidly evolving field.
