Google Cloud made headlines at the HIMSS conference in Orlando by introducing new AI tools designed to revolutionize the healthcare industry. The tech giant unveiled Vertex AI Search for Healthcare, an innovative generative search feature that allows clinicians to efficiently analyze patient data and clinical notes.
Aashima Gupta, Google Cloud’s global director of healthcare strategy and solutions, emphasized the significant time savings and improved user experience offered by the new search tool. By customizing settings to align with electronic health record (EHR) workflows, clinicians can benefit from a seamless and intuitive search process similar to using Google.com.
In addition to Vertex AI Search for Healthcare, Google Cloud also unveiled enhancements to its large-scale language models (LLMs) tailored for the healthcare sector. These updates include an API for improved chest radiograph classification and another API that generates a concise summary of patient conditions in chronological order, streamlining workflows for clinicians and medical researchers.
The MedLM model is currently being piloted by prominent healthcare organizations like Highmark Health, Mayo Clinic, and HCA Healthcare. One of the key applications being explored is nurse handover, where MedLM automates the creation of patient summaries based on specific EHR data points, saving nurses valuable time during shift transitions.
By leveraging AI technology to enhance clinical data analysis and streamline healthcare workflows, Google Cloud is driving innovation in the industry and empowering healthcare professionals to deliver more efficient and effective patient care.
