Fitbit App Redesign Declutters UI and Improves User Experience
Fitbit, the popular fitness tracking company now owned by Google, is set to release a long-overdue redesign of its mobile app. The focus of this redesign is to declutter the user interface (UI) and make it easier for users to access and find core information. The new app design features a clean and organized three-tab layout, dividing the content into Today, Coach, and You.
The You section of the app is where users can access all their personal fitness data. This includes setting goals, tracking their progress, viewing badges earned, and managing connections to their Fitbit fitness band or smartwatch. The interface is simple and intuitive, with each element neatly arranged in a card view under banners like Health assessments, Badges, and Goals. This layout makes it easy for users to find the specific information they are looking for.
The Coach tab is designed to provide users with workout options and training videos. A scrolling gallery of Fitbit-certified health experts allows users to choose their preferred workout instructor and watch their training sessions. The top of the tab features a carousel of cards that specify the workout type, such as strength-building, mindfulness exercises, and yoga. Users can also filter workouts based on their subscription status and available time.
The Today tab offers users a comprehensive view of their daily fitness metrics, including information about steps taken, distance covered, sleep and exercise hours, calories burned, water intake, heart rate, and weight. Users have the option to customize the information they want to see on this page. The new design adheres to the Material You design theming that Google has embraced for Android, creating a visually appealing and cohesive user experience.
In addition to the aesthetic makeover, Fitbit has made improvements to the accuracy of step counts, whether users are walking or running. The redesigned app also features more consistent and easy-to-follow charts for tracking progress. While currently available to a select group of beta testers, the updated app is expected to be accessible to all users by the fall.
