ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot platform that features a generative pre-trained transformer, commonly referred to as “GPT”. It uses natural language processing and machine learning technologies to respond to human questions and inquiries. It can detect errors, omit irrelevant requests and follow up questions for conversations that create a natural exchange – much like regular human language dialogue.
The platform was launched back in 2015 by tech entrepreneur, Elon Musk and co-founder Sam Altman with the aim of advancing the development of artificial intelligence for the betterment of mankind. Due to some potential conflicts of interest with his work at Tesla, Elon Musk resigned from the Board of OpenAI in 2018 and Sam Altman became the company’s CEO.
OpenAI, a non-profit research organization, was created to create and guide AI in a way that benefits all of humanity. It was funded by a $1 billion endowment from Musk and Altman, as well as additional investors. Under the leadership of Altman, the chatbot has made strides in the development of AI and its applications, such as auto-correcting code issues, summarizing complex writing, and even converting movie titles into emojis.
However, in order to commercialize the platform, Altman has admitted that the computing costs are high. OpenAI is continuing to develop and improve AI systems, providing a more human-like natural exchange when conversing with ChatGPT, as well as allowing users to gain value from their interaction with the AI bot. Hopefully, in the near future, OpenAI and ChatGPT will be able to improve its capabilities in developing AI for the benefit of the entire world.
