Hickok Cole, an architecture studio, has utilised the OpenAI chatbot, ChatGPT, to design a mixed-use building that could be situated in a city centre and measured at 24 storeys tall. Jack Lynch, the project architect at Hickok Cole, used the tool as part of the firm’s iLab microgrant program to research new methods of vertical mixed-use development. The building was designed without a client, but the finished design contains retail, office, residential, library and hotel features. Lynch believes that the program’s conversational qualities are similar to working alongside a young designer and he is excited at the possibilities AI tools provide for architects in the future.
