The Coventry City Council has confirmed to CoventryLive that the new Material Recycling Facility (MRF) will be operational by the end of next month. Councillor Patricia Hetherton, cabinet member for city services, expressed her excitement about the facility, stating, The new materials recycling facility is looking great and I’m pleased to say it will open towards the end of next month. Not only will it be the best facility of its kind in the country, using the very latest technology, it will also help us to recycle more, which is good news for local people and the environment.
Coventry City Council, along with seven other local authorities, including Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, North Warwickshire Borough Council, Rugby Borough Council, Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, Walsall Council, Warwick District Council, and Stratford District Council, is actively involved in establishing this groundbreaking recycling facility. Situated at the back of Coventry & Solihull Waste Disposal Company on London Road, the facility was initially estimated to cost £34.5 million. However, the final cost is anticipated to be around £60 million, with additional expenses exceeding £20 million. Once operational, the facility will have a capacity of handling a remarkable 175,000 tonnes of dry mixed recycling from kerbside collections every year.
