Apple CEO Tim Cook recently commented on the rise of AI and led to conversations about AI chatbots, like ChatGPT. During the quarterly earnings call, Cook stated that AI’s potential is “very interesting” but also noted “issues that need to be sorted”, urging that AI should be used with “deliberate and thoughtfulness”.
Apple has integrated several machine learning and AI features on services and products, such as the ECG app, Crash Detection, and Fall Detection. Cook did mention, however, that AI technologies will be continued to be incorporated at Apple thoughtfully. Although Siri was available externally before ChatGPT, the assistant often falls behind the latter’s capabilities and is subject to internal criticism from Apple employees. It has been suggested that potential enhancements to the language model of Siri will be released as part of an iOS update in 2021 forward.
