Cisco Enhances Webex with Air-Gapping for National Security

Date:

In response to growing national security concerns, Cisco is adding air-gapping to its Webex virtual meeting platform. This solution designed to provide secure communication and remote file-sharing will be available in 2024 in a U.S.-based cloud environment that is isolated from public networks and run by authorized personnel.

Air gapping means that no data stored in the cloud can be accessed or modified by an unauthorized attacker that manages to gain access to a government entity’s system. This robust form of protection will be essential for businesses and organizations in the private sector while engaging in hybrid work environments that involve accessing data from the cloud on the go.

Cisco executive Jeetu Patel spoke on the need for air gapping, noting that “all levels of government are modernizing and leaning into hybrid work environments to allow workers to stay connected, whether in the office, working remotely or on the go. Their unique and evolving needs require an added layer of security when it comes to collaboration technology, and workers expect an amazing user experience.”

Research on the subject shows that 89% of organizations host sensitive data or workloads in the cloud, further emphasizing the need for secure and reliable cloud storage solutions. Air-gapping in the cloud provides an extra layer of security and will help organizations to keep their data safe and secure.

Cisco is a leader in communication and networking technologies with a worldwide presence. The company designs and manufactures advanced networking, architecture, and digital platform technologies while catering to both public and private sectors. This latest technological advancement is yet another example of how Cisco is stepping up to the challenge of securely powering the future of work.
