Under the guidance of heads of state diplomacy, China-Kazakhstan ties soar to new heights: China Daily editorial
Facing an increasingly unpredictable geopolitical environment to its east and south, China has every reason to stabilize relations with its neighbors to the north and west. Among them, Kazakhstan holds unique strategic importance for its strengths in logistics, energy, and resources, as well as its influential position in Central Asia.
Kazakhstan recognizes the strategic significance of its relationship with China, the world’s second-largest economy. Focused on enhancing bilateral economic cooperation and strategic coordination, Kazakhstan aims to boost its economic growth and maintain a favorable external development environment.
The collaboration between the two countries has transformed President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road Initiative from vision to reality. This is evident in the tangible benefits brought by Belt and Road projects to the Kazakh people and the country’s increased connectivity within the global trade network. In 2023, the trade volume between China and Kazakhstan reached $41 billion, marking a 32 percent year-on-year increase, at a time when global trade faced a decline.
Beyond economic ties, the foundation of China-Kazakhstan relations lies in deep political trust. Both countries advocate for common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security, as well as contribute to global peace, development, and the international order. Their joint efforts have resulted in a stable Central Asia, maintaining peace and stability amidst regional tensions elsewhere.
During President Xi’s recent visit to Kazakhstan, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to a long-lasting strategic partnership. China supports Kazakhstan’s participation in the BRICS cooperation mechanism and aims to strengthen synergy between Belt and Road cooperation and Kazakhstan’s development strategy. The focus is on doubling bilateral trade, deepening cooperation in traditional sectors, and exploring collaborations in high-tech areas such as new energy, digital economy, and artificial intelligence.
Under successful heads of state diplomacy, China and Kazakhstan are entering a new chapter of strengthened relations and increased cooperation. Both countries are paving the way for a closer partnership, aligning their visions for mutual benefit and sustainable development.
