The debate of whether jam or cream should be placed first on a scone has been around since the 1500s, with many individuals forming their own opinion on the subject. The @VeryBritishProblems Twitter account has recently posed the same question to ChatGPT, a language model created by OpenAI, to settle the debate. ChatGPT agreed with the ‘Devon method’, which states that the clotted cream should be put on the scone first, and followed by the jam.
Not everyone agreed with the AI chatbot, with the likes of comedians such as Dawn French saying ‘You are a robot with no taste (literally & figuratively) & no respect for all that is holy. And right.’ Others, however, agreed with ChatGPT’s decision, claiming it was the most logical. Debate on how to apply the jam and cream on the scone is ongoing, as is the long and heated conflict between Devon and Cornwall about who invented the traditional afternoon combination of tea, scones, clotted cream and jam.
The AI chatbot, ChatGPT, is a language model developed by OpenAI. It utilizes natural language processing and deep learning to better understand user questions, as well as providing more accurate replies. It has been used to power a range of applications including customer support, conversational agents, and intelligent assistants.
