ChatGPT is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered app called Call Annie that has recently been made available to users. The app allows one-on-one communication with a ChatGPT-powered bot over video chat. The AI friend boasts complex conversation capabilities and can even assist with learning a new language, preparing for an interview, and acquiring general knowledge.
The AI friend makes use of a female avatar that has the capability to mimic a human-like conversation and exchange. Although the bot talks in a robotic voice, the responses are quick and prompt. To enable real-time facial expressions and mimicry, the app relies on Apple’s Neural Engine and its video calling mode is only available on iPhone 12 and later models. Even Mac computers running macOS 13 and powered by Apple’s M-series chips are supported by the app, but audio only calls are available for users of older iPhone models.

Its developers ensure that the conversation kept with its AI friend is confidential and encrypted while real-time transcripts are sent to ChatGPT so that the dialogue can be later retrieved by the user.
The AI friend has been improved since its initial access and was dubbed as Samantha. Before its official launch, the developers made use of Midjourney to create the original image of the AI friend face. However, they have recently stated that they plan to add more characters and voices as the AI chatbot is still in its “proof of concept” phase.
Its estimated expenses are up to $700,000 a day and the AI powered chatbot has recently been added to Stardock’s Galactic Civilizations IV, called Supernova Edition, as an early access title. A private incognito mode has also been added for ChatGPT, ensuring data collection is disabled and chat history is not retained.
