Students at Pt RD Tiwari Government English School in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, are set to get an opportunity to learn the latest technology in robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning. The school, which has been transformed under the Swami Atmanand Excellent School Scheme, is one of the 10 government schools selected to have a robotics laboratory as part of a project called ‘Jigyasa’.
With the help of this laboratory, over 500 students will be able to study and create models, as well as various electronic devices. The students in the classes 4 to 10 will be taught to construct both models that do not employ any electronic devices, as well as electronic models, with the use of computers and programming. This will not only help to develop their technical creativity and problem-solving skills, but will also become an essential part of their future as robotics, AI and machine learning are becoming integral components in many of the world’s professions.
Not only will the students of Pt RD Tiwari Government English School gain a key advantage in the world of technology, similar laboratories have been set up in other parts of India, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. These laboratories will not only provide students with a tangible connection to the world of technology, but also help bridge the gap of inequalities present in the access of knowledge and resources.
The headmaster of the school, Anuj Kumar Dwivedi, stated that the basic objective of the robotics lab is to develop an interest in math and science among the students. Dwivedi also stressed that the equipment used in the lab came from Sweden and will help build an understanding of space calculations and the components needed for development.
Saurabh Verma, the mentor for the laboratory, further explained that the students in fourth and fifth grades will be shown models and learn the basics of design, while the sixth and seventh graders will be taught various aspects of electronics. Additionally, the higher secondary classes will be taught the basics of language and programming. This will not only help the students to understand the concept of development but they will also be able to apply this understanding to the development of traffic signals and its programming.
The education system in India has been given a comprehensive push with the introduction of this robotics lab. This will not only help to inspire and encourage students with the knowledge of the latest technology, but also lead to various future opportunities for them.
