Samsung Stops ChatGPT Use on Corporate Devices: Report

Date:

Samsung has recently blocked the use of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT on its own devices as well as workers’ non-company-owned devices operating on the internal network. According to TechCrunch, the move comes after Samsung suffered several safety breaches in the data, with ChatGPT being used by employees.

In response, Samsung has now restricted the use of ChatGPT, Microsoft’s Bing and Google’s Braid on its devices. This regulation only applies to the devices issued by Samsung to engineers. Consumers and personal devices outside the company will not be subject to the blockage.

Samsung is thus bolstering its internal security, with the short-term blocking of ChatGPT likely to remain in effect until new protective protocols are implemented in order to guarantee safety for the use of generative AI. The company asks employees to not submit any company confidential information or personal information in ChatGPT.

Samsung, a South Korean technology company, specializes in areas such as consumer electronics, shipbuilding, petrochemicals, and telecommunications. It is one of the world’s leading producers of semiconductors, mobile phones and TVs. Its mission statement is “to inspire the world by providing innovative products, services, and solutions.”

The memo which was reported by Bloomberg and seen by employees, was released by Sang W. Kim, Samsung’s Vice President of Global Business. Kim is a former Vice President at IBM, whose extensive experience in the tech industry has enabled her to turn Samsung into a leader in the semiconductor industry. She was also responsible for the execution of a growth strategy that has led to Samsung’s global success.
