ChatGPT Connects Boston Dynamics’ Robodogs for ‘Talking’

Date:

A machine learning expert has successfully integrated ChatGPT into Boston Dynamics’ famous robodogs, making it possible for them to understand and respond to users in plain English. Santiago Valdarrama, a tech expert, merged the program into the yellow-and-black four-legged bots in order to improve “automated missions” the robots undertook to assess the environment they were in.

The new update has made it possible for the robots to give back real-time answers to questions based on the context they were provided. Moreover, the Yellow-and-black four-legged bots can not only detect thermal anomalies, gauge readings, and acoustic anomalies, but it can also identify changes in its environment.

In April, the FDNY employed the robodogs, albeit non-ChaGPT ones, to search and rescue at the collapsed parking garage in lower Manhattan.

The integration of ChatGPT has been hailed as a “game changer” by fellow tech expert Raul Junco. With such level of sophistication, the limits to what the Robodogs can do are limitless according to Valdarrama.

Despite the advantages, some social commentators have raised concerns over the repercussions of the robodogs’ capabilities. To which, Valdarrama has stated that they are limiting the robots to answer questions within a set context, so the robots will not be able to control themselves. He also stated that he is keenly aware of how critical it is to ensure safety with such a powerful tool and considers it to be more harmless than pesticides in our food.

Boston Dynamics is an American engineering and robotics design company founded in 1992. It is famous for its advanced robotic creations, such as the famous robodog, as well as its unique robotics and engineering solutions for the public and private sector.
