Evaluating India and Cuba’s Collaboration in Information Technology

Date:

India and Cuba recently celebrated their potential for collaboration in the information and technology sector. Cuban Deputy Minister of Communications Grisel Reyes Leon visited India to assess the possibilities and opportunities for joint work. She was accompanied by a delegation of a dozen Cuban experts from different areas of the communications industry.

On the first day of the trip, the experts met with the Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO) and local institutions and discussed how to combine the nations’ potentials to train personnel in information technology. Leon also mentioned artificial intelligence, big data, and blockchain as areas in which companies from both countries could work together.

The Cuban minister also proposed to invest in developing technological science parks, setting up capacities to promote the development of innovative technological solutions, in line with Cuba’s digital transformation.

Throughout the trip, the delegation will attend events such as the International Information Technology & Communications Technology Exhibition and Conference, INDIAsoft 2023. This three-day event will take place at the Pragati Maidan fairgrounds in New Delhi, bringing together more than 500 delegates from over 60 countries and 1,500 exhibitors of electronics, hardware, and other national information technologies.

The IETO is the leading corporate organization in India, representing start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, and the private sector in India, with a major presence across the communications industry. Arvind Kumar, the director general of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), Railways, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Head of State for Communications, Devusinh Chauhan, are some of its most notable members. The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) is also part of this group.

The Cuban delegation will also have the chance to meet with members from the Indian Institute of Technology, Sapnesh Lala, and Debjani Ghosh, President of NASSCOM. This forum will give both countries a huge opportunity to create a joint work platform with the potential for the Latin American technology market, not only for the two countries but for future collaborations.
