Interview with OpenAI CTO Mira Murati on Leading ChatGPT

In response to the recent letter calling for a 6-month industry pause on developing AI models that exceed the capabilities of GPT-4, Murati’s opinion is that it is important for organizations to take consider safety mechanisms and coordinate players in the space, and that it may not be practical to sign a letter to build safety mechanisms.

Since Murati joined OpenAI, the company has changed structurally in order to focus on its mission while being able to allocate the necessary funding. The safety standards and principles OpenAI abides evolve over time with more contact with reality, in order to identify weaknesses and breakage points with a low risk approach.
