AI Outperforms All Platforms in Neurosurgery Exams – ChatGPT-4 Achieves 82.9% While Google Bard Lacks

Date:

Experts in the medical field are abuzz with the newest advancements in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI). A study conducted by researchers from the United States has found that AI-based chatbots, such as ChatGPT (GPT-3.5), GPT-4, and Google Bard, have outperformed their predecessors and competitors in a simulated neurosurgery oral board examination.

This ground-breaking study evaluated the performance of the three AI models on 149 questions typically found on the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS) oral board exam. The research team found that ChatGPT (GPT-3.5) had a score of 62.4%, GPT-4 scored 82.6%, and Google Bard’s score was 44.2%. Amazingly, GPT-4 performed significantly better than ChatGPT and Google Bard in the Spine sub-specialty, achieving an impressive 90.5% pass rate, while ChatGPT obtained 64.3% and Google Bard obtained 66.7%.

The successful performance of AI models such as GPT-4 on the neurosurgery oral board examinations has signaled a potential shift in medical education and exams in the future. AI-based chatbots have gained traction in the medical field for their ability to handle multiple-choice questions with ease and generate more contextually relevant responses in real-time. The fact that such models can outperform their competitors in neurosurgery oral exam simulations could result in improved performance in actual neurosurgery board exams, leading to better patient outcomes.

With the successful performance of GPT-4, questions have also been raised regarding the ethical and legal implications of using AI models in medical training and practice. Medical professionals must be mindful of the potential risks of relying on AI systems, such as degradation of clinical skills and perpetuation of existing biases in medical practice. Additionally, strict security measures must be implemented to protect patient data and maintain privacy. Finally, clear guidelines must be established to ensure legal and ethical implications of AI-assisted decision-making in medicine are addressed.
