Chegg Study Buddy Leverages AI Technology from ChatGPT as Educators Tackle Technical Challenges

Date:

Chegg Inc. has developed CheggMate to provide students with enhanced study assistance via its quiz answer-based artificially intelligent (AI) model, GPT-4, combined with ChatGPT’s AI. This program is personalized to the needs of students and enables them to practice with tailored tests and receive guidance for their studies. The release of CheggMate is intended to expand the usage of AI in student work, but also comes at a time when educators are wary of its consequences as evidenced by the launch of ChatGPT last year, which allowed students to submit assignments written from the chatbot, leading many tutors to question their originality.

To ensure accuracy and limit potential harm, the Los Angeles Unified School District has blocked access to ChatGPT devices and networks while institutions such as Sciences Po have prohibited its usage altogether. Some teachers have however recommended ChatGPT’s use when disclosed and with the understanding of provisions such as critique.

CheggMate is designed solely for math and science courses and teachers will also be able to limit the scope of answers to questions on current exams, in efforts to prevent academic dishonesty. In addition, the company has furnished and examined its answers to guarantee accuracy and have said that the software’s use could reduce its content costs and operate more economically over time.

Dan Rosensweig is the CEO of Chegg Inc and he said the study aid is equivalent to having the convenience of a tutor in your pocket. The service is set to be released for free in the near future although some analysts questioned the future of the company’s 8 million subscribers as ChatGPT’s largely complimentary software is becoming increasingly used.

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the company which created ChatGPT, has foreseen a prosperous partnership with Chegg to develop better education worldwide. Chegg believes that its unique dataset explains the two companies’ engagement.

Overall, with the help of the AI model, GPT-4, the launch of CheggMate has opened up opportunities for both companies while providing a study aid for students which teachers can trust to be accurate and reliable.
