Elon Musk Announces Plan to Launch Competitor to Microsoft-Backed ChatGPT

Date:

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, raised eyebrows recently when he announced his plans to launch an artificial intelligence platform to rival those of other tech giants. TruthGPT will reportedly challenge Microsoft-backed AI ChatGPT and Google’s offerings. According to Musk, OpenAI, the firm behind ChatGPT, has become a “closed source, for-profit” enterprise that aligns itself closely with Microsoft, which calls into question their commitment to truth-seeking for their AI. The eccentric tech titan has also accused Larry Page, the co-founder of Google, of failing to address safety concerns around the development of AI.

To create an alternative to OpenAI and Google’s work, Musk has been poaching top AI researchers from Google to launch a startup of his own. He recently registered X.AI Corp in Nevada, with himself as the sole director and Jared Birchall as the secretary. Additionally, he has aired his worries about AI reaching a point of civilizational destruction and discussed the matter with former President Obama, urging Washington to create more regulation around AI development.

In the interview he held with Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson, he raised the issue of AI being a greater risk than the misuse of aircraft design or car production and elucidated the idea of AI being ‘deceitful’ with its manipulation of public opinion. His clarion call for regulation is set to create a third option outside of the varying AI platforms currently offered. As of now, Musk, Microsoft, OpenAI, Google and Larry Page have yet to respond to the story.
