In a recent interview, tech tycoon Elon Musk revealed his plans to rival OpenAI’s popular ChatGPT by creating a new AI product with a maximum truth-seeking moniker—TruthGPT. Distancing himself from OpenAI, which he founded before it became a for-profit venture, Musk noted his concerns of the AI being trained to lie. Describing his new product, he said that “TruthGPT or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe” would be the best way to protect humans since it would find us “an interesting part of the universe.”
In addition to this statement, Musk has been ramping up his efforts in poaching AI researchers from Google, as well as registering a new company X.AI Corp. in Nevada; he is the sole director, with Jared Birchall as secretary. Moreover, he has joined another group of experts in calling for a moratorium on the development of systems that are more powerful than OpenAI’s GPT-4, voicing out their concerns of possible risks to society that could result. Watch Elon Musk’s interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson in the video below to hear more of his views on AI.
OpenAI is a for-profit startup that is behind the popular ChatGPT Artificial Intelligence software. It is based in San Francisco and focuses on creating advanced AI systems for a variety of different uses. They are one of the leading entities in the field, having won prestigious awards such as the 2017 NIPS Creator’s Challenge, and have received millions in funding from entrepreneurs and Silicon Valley investors like Google and Microsoft.
On the other hand, Elon Musk is a business magnate, entrepreneur and investor, as well as the founder of Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, The Boring Company, and an inspiration for many more ambitious projects. He is an outgoing innovator who has seriously disrupted the automotive industry with Tesla, changed the way people travel with SpaceX and impressed many with his efforts in AI research and development. His perspective on the field has always been that of caution, as he has consistently argued for regulating AI to guarantee the safety of people and society.
