Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, is likely to embark on a 3-day visit to India on April 28 according to officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister Secretariat. The date was proposed by India to the Government of Nepal and if the current political situation of the country remains normal, the PM will go ahead with the trip. This will be his first international visit since being elected as Prime Minister for the second time.
The visit comes after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar congratulated newly appointed Foreign Minister N.P. Saud on his appointment two days ago. During the trip, the Prime Minister is expected to discuss air routes via Bhairahawa, hydropower projects, Kathmandu- Raxaul railways and other key issues with Indian officials.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has made two prior visits to India in his tenure. The first was in 2008, following the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. The second one happened in 2016, in what was his first official visit to the country.
Meanwhile, Dahal recently added two more ministers to his cabinet. Narayan Prasad Saud was inducted as the Foreign minister while Nanda Chapai was given the oath as the State Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport. The Prime Minister still holds the Ministries of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Forest and Environment, Health and Population, and Youth and Sports.
