LinkedIn Report: Young Professionals Embrace AI Tools for Job Hunting and Growth Amid AI Job Threat
Artificial intelligence (AI) has long been viewed as a threat to human jobs, with experts predicting widespread unemployment due to the rise of this new technology. However, a recent report by LinkedIn, the employment-focused social media platform, reveals that many young professionals are actually using AI tools to aid their job hunting efforts and further their careers.
According to the report, titled AI is helping professionals discover and prepare for the jobs they want and grow in their careers, a significant number of young professionals acknowledge the benefits of AI tools. In fact, 70% of Generation Z and 82% of millennials believe that AI tools can assist them in their career growth. Moreover, over 70% of young employees stated that AI tools enhance their job-hunting process by helping them pick the right jobs and boosting their confidence through features like simulated interviews and interview tips.
The report surveyed 1,097 professionals in India who were either full-time or part-time employees. It found that nearly 9 out of 10 professionals in India are considering a new job in 2024, representing a 4% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, there was a 9% rise in job search intensity in 2023 as compared to 2022.
While professionals are optimistic about job prospects, many struggle to keep up with the rapidly changing skill requirements. LinkedIn data reveals that job skills have changed by 30% in India since 2015. Interestingly, nearly half of the professionals surveyed (45%) admitted that they do not know how to align their skills with the job they desire, making the job search process even more challenging. Additionally, 59% of respondents reported rarely receiving responses from recruiters.
To combat these challenges, job seekers are adopting alternative approaches to increase their chances of securing opportunities. Some are embracing new formats, such as video and digital resumes, while others focus on building their professional brand and networking. The report shows that 79% of professionals are posting more content on LinkedIn, and 83% are actively growing their professional network.
According to LinkedIn’s analysis, the top three fastest-growing jobs in India in 2024 are Closing Manager, Influencer Marketing Specialist, and Design Specialist, with growth rates surpassing 79%. In addition, positions like Drone Pilot, Recruiter, Sales Development Representative, Demand Generation Associate, Customs Officer, Growth Manager, Investor Relations Manager, Political Analyst, Delivery Consultant, Client Advisor, Creative Strategist, and Chief Revenue Officer are expected to flourish in the current year.
While AI continues to raise concerns about job security, this report highlights how young professionals are embracing AI tools to enhance their career prospects. By leveraging these tools, they are better equipped to navigate the evolving job market and stay competitive. As the job market becomes increasingly competitive, professionals are encouraged to invest time in optimizing their profiles, highlighting their skills, and staying updated on industry developments, ultimately increasing their chances of finding the desired job and developing long-term career success.
