Testing AI Content Creation Tool with Weibo Select Users

Major Chinese microblogging platform Weibo is gearing up to launch an AI-powered creation assistant in the second quarter of the year. This was announced during the company’s annual Creator Festival, which was held in the central Chinese city Changsha on April 15. Weibo is also introducing incentives to aid creators in monetizing their content during the two-day event.

Weibo holds the position of being one of China’s most utilized social media platforms, boasting 586 million active users per month, as of the end of 2022. However, the platform is facing drops in total revenue and advertising income, as users turn towards lifestyle platform Xiaohongshu and short video apps. In an attempt to compete, Weibo is introducing the AI assistant and monetization plans to help increase the efficiency of content creation, and thus creators’ earning potential. To kick off the launch of the AI assistant, 100 creators, with an impressive 5,000 original blog posts, are invited to be the first to use the program when the launch happens in the second quarter.
