The lawsuit, which has been described as opening up new legal challenges to artificial intelligence technologies, comes as the use of generative AI information gains traction in everyday life. Radio host Mark Walters claims ChatGPT provided false information to a journalist researching a lawsuit between The Second Amendment Foundation and Robert Ferguson. Walter was allegedly accused of defrauding and embezzling funds from the foundation, despite not being mentioned in any of the case documents. The lawsuit claims that ChatGPT injured Walter’s reputation by providing false information to the journalist. OpenAI has previously called the generation of incorrect information on its platform a hallucination.
