US telecommunications giant, AT&T, has announced that it has developed a new AI tool to assist its employees, called Ask AT&T. The tool, created in collaboration with Microsoft, is a generative AI application that aims to augment employee work and increase productivity. Unlike many AI chatbots, however, Ask AT&T is intended for use only by AT&T employees and has no customer-facing role. Instead, it has several internal uses, such as assisting developers in their coding work and helping pull up specific information about customers. The chatbot does not aim to replace human workers, and the telecommunications firm has not laid off any employees as a result of its introduction.
